The objective of this project was to select or create a literary work, visually interpret it through illustrations, and apply text layout techniques to design approximately 15 spreads, along with the cover and endpages.

Background

Outcome

Using ink wash painting, I created seven illustrations that captured the dark themes of isolation, madness, and the supernatural present in The Shining. These visuals were complemented by chapter headings designed to integrate seamlessly with the overall layout. The cover design, intentionally contrasting the illustrations, was crafted to echo the art deco style present throughout the artwork. The entire novel was mocked up to provide an accurate representation of how the book would appear in print, ensuring a cohesive and immersive visual experience.
